Cow Green Garden

Eve Menhinnitt and friend

The garden in Cow Lane is being created from a disused site in the centre of Ilfracombe. It used to be the site of an old abattoir but in 2001 volunteers from Ilfracombe's environmental group Trans-Send decided to try and transform it to provide a beautiful space for all the community to enjoy.
When finished the garden will comprise of a small amphitheatre, a mosaic bench, a paddy field style wetlands and stream, a contemplation area and many trees and flowers. The garden is being made from locally sourced and eco-friendly materials wherever possible.
The community garden is open at all times with site supervisor, James Rowe present every Friday. James who is leading the work-in says "I don't have a garden of my own so I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to do some planting an watch things grow. It's a wonderful feeling to help provide a space of such peace and tranquillity that people can enjoy and relax in."
