With the coming of the railway to Ilfracombe in 1874 there was a surge of building to reflect the demand for hotels as well as private residences.  Some of these buildings can still be seen with much of their architectural features still intact.  The Reverend Jim Bates, a local expert on Ilfracombe's Victorian architecture has produced many drawings of how these buildings would have looked originally.  To view a building please click on one of the lamps below.
