Over
a two year period two linked classes have been run on demand. The first,
'Introduction to Computers', addressed basic problems connected with purchasing
a first computer such as how to find one's way through the bewildering array
of equipment and programs. An introduction was also given to selected programs
in Windows with the aim of demonstrating their range and potential. Thees
included examples of graphics, publishing, language and music files.
The second set of classes, 'Introduction to the Internet', looked at the hardware and software needed for the next stage and gave some familiarity with the 'language' used. The use of different Browsers, Search Engines and Internet Sevice Providers was considered along with demonstrations of how to use Email and navigate the World Wide Web. Further examples included music downloads, virtual reality and webcam images.
Since the introduction of these courses many members have acquired their own computer and we are about to replace these sessions with a Computer Club where members can meet to address particular problems and share different programs.
