Ilfracombe Pier
Home

The site of a medieval fishing settlement, Ilfracombe was an important and independent port before becoming a sub-port of Exeter in the 14th century.

For centuries it was used as a port of embarkation for Ireland, at one time providing more ships for the King's Service than Liverpool.

The promenade pier was completed in 1873 owned by the Lord of the Manor, Sir Bourchier Wrey, and transferred to Ilfracombe Urban District Council in 1908.

The pier is currently being demolished to make way for a new more modern structure.
